Welcome to our summer term newsletter! Let’s hope we have sunny and warm weather throughout the next few months so we can make the most of our great outdoor facilities with the children.
This half term we have been looking at Life Cycles and Growing. Our trip to Sheringham Park was a great success. Rob and his wonderful team organised some amazing activities for us all.
Our nursery caterpillars grew and grew before turning into chrysalises and then into butterflies – all very exciting!
Next half term our topic will be Travel and Holidays. I am looking forward to being taken to some amazing places through the children sharing their experiences along with supported role play and activities. If you have any recourses or would like to share your experiences with the children please let us know. It would be greatly appreciated.
Safeguarding/Health and safety
Due to child protection and safeguarding recommendations may I remind you that we are unable to apply sun block to any child during a nursery session. Please ensure your child has sun protection on before dropping them off at nursery. It is also a good idea for them to have a long sleeved top on; we do provide sun hats for the children to wear in the garden. Also may I remind you that pushchairs and buggies are not allowed in the reception area or playroom. We do have a wonderful buggy shelter just outside the nursery. Please could everyone remember to shut the gate on arrival and departure to ensure this area is safe, thank you.
Children do get messy at nursery; please do not send your child to nursery in clothes that are precious. We do provide the children with aprons and you may purchase red Ladybird Nursery polo shirts and sweat shirts should you choose to. I have been a little concerned on a few occasions of late when parents or the children themselves have requested that they cannot join in some of the activities as their clothes need to stay clean! Messy play in early years is vital for all children to explore and develop.
On Tuesday 12th July we will be offering parents whose child will be leaving us this summer the opportunity to meet with their child’s Key Worker to share Transition Reports and Learning Stories. Please can you approach your child’s Key Worker and arrange an appointment time, these will be running from 4p.m.
From September 2016 we are delighted to be offering our three and four year olds extended days at Ladybird. The sessions are 9a.m. – 12noon and 12.45p.m. – 3.45p.m. These can be linked with a Lunch Club from 12noon – 12.45p.m. Please spread the word to any families who have children in this age group, if you or you know anyone who could display a poster advertising this facility please let us know, we would be very grateful for this support.
Parent & family support
As you are aware the Nursery is a charity and, therefore, non-profit making. We receive income from the 2 year old and 3 year old funding from Norfolk County Council and from fees paid by some families. However, this only just covers our running costs. Improvements to the building, replacing worn out toys and equipment and developing new activities for the children are paid for by the money we generate from generous donations and fundraising. We have an excellent Fundraising team and are always looking for new ideas and people to join us to continue to make this successful.
Fundraising amounts from last half term were:
Super Hero and Princess Disco £690.83! Scavenger Hunt sheets £134.10, Yard Sale £82.00, Fish and Chips Quiz Night £266.70.
EDP Community Chest fund £250.00

Crab and Lobster Festival Beach Hut! Thanks to Kate Munro and sponsorship from Barry Starling we have produced a wonderful Beach Hut for this year’s festival. Please make sure you go and take a look at it on display in Starlings shop window!
Cromer Carnival Car Park – we will once again be “manning” the park and ride car park on Wednesday 17th August, Cromer Carnival Day. We are always in need of more volunteers to help with this so please if you, or any of your extended family could help just for an hour or two please indicate this on the attached form. Thank you.
We desperately need more parents to help with organising and running events and to volunteer to help with various jobs around the nursery. If you could give us a couple of hours of your time or join our fundraising group we would all be very grateful.
Current jobs around the nursery that need doing range from cleaning outside windows, weeding, clearing and cleaning gutters, washing dressing up clothes, dolls clothes and toys. A list will be put up in the reception area please put your name against the jobs if you could help in any way. Thank you.
With best wishes, Vanessa
