Welcome to the autumn term!
We hope you all had a wonderful Summer Break! Since returning to Nursery this Autumn we have been offering the thirty hours funding to those families eligible for this; 9am – 3.45pm including a Lunch Club for 3 and 4 year olds! This is proving to be popular and the children are really enjoying being here for full days! If you would like more information on the 30 hours funding please ask, the website to check your eligibility is: www.childcarechoices.gov.uk
Visit to Sheringham Park
On Friday 6th October we enjoyed a whole Nursery visit to Sheringham Park! We had a wonderful time and the weather was kind! The children explored the Bower area matching colours of natural objects to colour charts before creating their own sculptures out of sticks, logs and stones. We all had a go at pond dipping to see what under water creatures we could find! Then we made dream catchers out of sticks, wool, feathers and pine cones! We were able to all enjoy a lovely picnic lunch outside in the meadow before heading home. I’m sure everyone slept well that night after all that fresh air! We would all like to say a huge Thank You to Rob Coleman and his team of volunteers for looking after us all so well, we are already looking forward to our next visit!
AGM and Open Evening
Our AGM and Open Evening will take place on Tuesday 21st November at 7.30pm. Please put this date in your diaries, your attendance will be much appreciated. This is a time when you can meet the staff team, trustees, committee members and other parents and carers. There will be a short meeting followed by cheese and WINE! The evening also gives you the opportunity to look at your Child’s Learning Journey and ask any questions you may have regarding your child and the nursery.
PE and Movement to Music Sessions
On a Tuesday and Friday morning the children will be participating in PE/Movement to Music Sessions! Please could you send your child in appropriate clothing so they can join in both these sessions. If possible can tights not be worn on these days as the sessions will take place with bare feet and the children will be encouraged to take off and put on their own shoes and socks!
Learning at Home
We hope you have all now seen the ‘Learning at Home’ display board. Please can you support this by taking photos of things your children do at home. Do not be put off by the script, we can do this in Nursery but we really would appreciate some photos! Thank you.
We would like to thank the parents who helped wash dressing up clothes, aprons, dolls clothes etc. and who carried out small repairs and gardening last term. This really does help keep the Nursery and the toys and equipment safe and looking good. Please watch out for our next ‘jobs list’ and put your name down if you are willing and able to help.
We are currently in need of someone with their own gardening equipment to help by clearing some brambles and weeds from the area at the back of Ladybird! Please talk to Vanessa or Helen if you can help…
Parent & family support
As you are aware the Nursery is a charity and, therefore, non-profit making. We receive income from the 2 year old and 3/4 year old funding from Norfolk County Council and from fees paid by some families. However, this only just covers our running costs. Improvements to the building, replacing worn out toys and equipment and developing new activities for the children are paid for by the money we generate from generous donations and fundraising. In past years we have had tremendous support for fundraising from the parents, staff members and the wider community. This is the money that we have used to help cover the cost for the new playground surface!
Fundraising amounts from last half term were:
Quiz Night £267.60, Greek Music Night at the Constantia Cottage Restaurant £568.00, Carnival 60/40 raffle £212.60, Carnival Prince and Princess Disco £325.33 (£183.13 to Ladybird, £142.20 to Carnival).
- Fish and Chips Quiz Night – Date TBC.
- Christmas Tree Festival, St Peters Church – Thursday 7th – Tuesday 12th
- Nativity Raffle – Friday 8th December
Please support these events and if you would like to help with fundraising please let Helen know and/or attend our next fundraising meeting – date to be confirmed.
Easy Fundraising – this is a very easy way to support Ladybird! Every time you shop on-line we could get a percentage of that spend directly to the Nursery. All you have to do is log on to www.easyfundraising.org.uk register, find Ladybird Pre School Nursery and select us as your chosen charity then shop as normal, it doesn’t cost you a penny more, it’s that simple!
We also have some Ladybird charity boxes; if you have a shop or business where you could accommodate one of these or know someone who could this would be greatly appreciated, please let us know.
Raffle Prizes – Any donations of raffle prizes would be very gratefully received! Thank you.
The Nursery closes for half term on Thursday 19th October 2017 and re-opens on Monday 30th October. We will be closing for the Christmas holidays on Friday 15th December at 12 noon and re-open on Monday 8th January 2018. If you would like a complete list of term dates for 2017/2018 please ask or check our website.
Dropping off & collecting
Just to let you know that it is fine to drop off your child at Nursery at any time after their session start time. However, we do appreciate you collecting your child promptly at the end of the session. We know it is very tempting to ‘peep in’ through the top window to watch your child at our singing/story time at the end of the session. However, if your child sees you they can get very distressed as they are too young to understand that you are not immediately coming in to collect them, so we ask that you refrain from ‘peeping in’. Thank you. Please also remember that as part of our safeguarding policy we cannot allow the use of mobile phones anywhere in the nursery, this includes the reception area. We are sorry, but Buggies/pushchairs are not permitted in the reception area or nursery, please use the buggy shelter provided, or you are welcome to use the playground to collect your child from the side door if you have a pushchair with a younger sibling.
Bags, shoes and coats
Thank you so much to the parents who have clearly named their children’s nursery bag it really helps with identification. Some parents have mentioned that they do not like their child’s name on the outside of their bag so we are requesting that you at least put their initials on it and there name inside the bag. Could you also please clearly name your child’s coat, wellies, book bag and anything else they bring to Nursery! Thank you.
Please do not bring your child into Nursery if they are unwell or are requiring Calpol or similar to get through their session. Not only is it unfair to your child, they may be ‘sharing’ their viruses with other children, staff and parents. Please remember children need to be excluded from Nursery for at least 48 hours from last episode of diarrhoea or vomiting. Please telephone or email to let us know if your child won’t be attending nursery and for what reason, thank you.
I know you will join me in welcoming Becky back from her maternity leave. Becky is now a proud mother to four boys! She has also successfully completed her Level 6 training and has achieved a BA in Early Childhood Studies gaining a 1st!! Well done Becky.
Thank you for your continued support,
With best wishes,
Vanessa and the Ladybird Staff Team
